It was a BEAUTIFUL day in the garden yesterday (November 11th) and the bugs were everywhere. We saw a centipede (top photo) and a millipede (bottom photo). Both are arthropods that can be beneficial to a garden. So... how are they different? Centipedes are predators who hunt and eat insects. They move quickly to catch their prey! Millipedes break down dead plant material and move much more slowly. In fact, the millipede we found had curled up into a ball to try and protect itself from the scary humans.
